Frequently asked questions
Q: Where do you get the Shelter Store merchandise?
A: We buy wholesale liquidation pallets from big box chain stores across the United States.  We sell these items in our store at a discounted price to help raise money for the shelter animals.

Q: Do you just sell pet-related items?
A: We have a wide variety of merchandise, including pet items occasionally. Our inventory varies, but you can expect to see things you would use in and around your home. Follow our Facebook Page to get a sneak peek at what’s hitting the sales floor.

Q: Who owns this store?
A: The Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society. 100% of the money raised in this store benefits approximately 12,000 animals we take into our shelter annually!

Q: Is everything new?
A: Most items are new, but occasionally we get in items that are gently used. If an item is used, we will mark the price tag “Used".

Q: Do you take donations?
A: Yes and no. We are very limited in space and our facility and staff aren't suited for sorting, cleaning, and repairing items. We cannot take in large items like furniture or heavy appliances.
HOWEVER WE CAN TAKE: like-new, gently used, or new items with or without tags still on them as long as the items are clean, odor-free, and we have the space.

Q: What are things I CAN donate?
A: We can take items that can be used at the shelter or resell to fundraise. A few examples we would LOVE to receive are:
  • Store-donated items
  • Gently used or new pet-related items
  • Gently used or new purses or jewelry
  • Gently used or new baby/kid items
  • Gently used or new items needed in or around the home/yard/garden/tool shed
  • Wish List items for the shelter animals

Q: What are things I CAN'T donate?
A: We cannot take items that are USED in these categories:
  • Clothing
  • Shoes
  • Mattresses
  • Large furniture
  • Large appliances
  • Items that need to be cleaned
  • Items that need to be repaired
  • Items that have odors
  • Super heavy items
  • Large items that take up a lot of space

If you have questions about which donations we can or cannot take, please give us a call at (270) 282-0268.

Q: When can I drop off my donation?
A: Anytime we are open. Please do not leave items after hours. We do not have a secure or weather-safe place to hold items outside of the store.

Q: Do you take volunteers?
A: Currently, we have plenty of volunteers at the store and do not need Shelter Store volunteers at this time, but we always need volunteers to help with the animals!
