![]() Fostering
Fostering means that you take animals home with you temporarily. Candidates for foster care are usually animals who are a little too young for adoption or ones who are already adopted/rescued and just can't leave for a while. Foster homes are needed anywhere from 1 night up to 2-3 weeks depending on the circumstances. You are never required to take a pet you aren't comfortable with and are never required to keep it any longer than you are able to. If you are unsure about fostering, we would encourage you to come out to the shelter and volunteer for a while first! ![]() Special Events
Our shelter is very active in the community, and we have special offsite events at least once a month. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with these events. They can range from handing out wish lists to customers at Walmart to helping with adoption events! If you are interested in helping with our special events, please complete a standard volunteer application and then shoot us an email at bgshelterpets@aol.com letting us know that you are willing to help. |
Volunteering
During current times, we are allowing volunteers over the age of 18 (either as an individual or in groups of two) schedule their volunteer times! Just call (270) 783-9404 to schedule a time frame! We ask that you wear something that you don't mind getting a little dirty in...we all know that puppies don't always have the best manners! We hear a lot of people say, "Oh, it would make me sad to work here." and you might think that at first. But just ask ANY volunteer and they will tell you...our shelter is a happy place. It's all about new beginnings and making new friends. The only thing that will make you sad is if you leave without helping at all. You can fill out your volunteer application at the shelter or you can download it here and bring it with you: ***If you are volunteering to fulfill court ordered community service, you should also complete a standard volunteer application. You are not required to schedule your time unless you have been assigned over 50 hours.***
![]() Transporting
Working with rescue groups throughout the country saves thousands of our shelter's pets every year. We are constantly trying to arrange transportation for these pets. Most long transports are broken up into "legs", which means that volunteers take shifts driving, so you would not be responsible for driving the entire way. Most transports are done on the weekends, so if you would like to get involved in this amazing effort please email Deana Wehr, our Rescue & Transport Manager at bgwchsrescue@gmail.com |
