Become a BGWCHS Volunteer

At the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Whether you are looking to spend one-on-one time with a shelter pet, bring a group for a day of service, or help us transport animals to their new lives, there is a place for you here.

Individual Volunteers

💪 Make a Difference, One Tail at a Time
Becoming an individual volunteer is a meaningful way to impact the lives of our shelter pets. Whether you walk dogs, socialize cats, or assist with laundry and facility upkeep, your time saves lives.
How to get started:
  1. Submit an Application: Fill out the form below.
  2. Request an Orientation: After submitting your application, visit us at the Adoption Center to request a brief orientation. You’ll learn about the shelter, volunteer tasks, and important safety policies.
  3. Start Saving Lives: After orientation, you can volunteer any time our doors are open! Our open volunteer program means you do not need to schedule your volunteer time unless you are a group (6 or more people).

Group Volunteers

🤝 Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!
Does your business, civic group, or social club want to give back? We love hosting groups for service projects! Group tasks typically include large-scale cleaning, landscaping, organizing, or assisting with special event prep. Please contact us at [email protected] to develop a meaningful volunteer day for your group.

Are you looking for opportunities for groups with children, such as a school club, scout troop, or youth organization? Please visit our Education and Youth Programs Page for age-appropriate opportunities and educational tours.

Transport Volunteers

🚚 The Road to a New Beginning
Working with rescue groups throughout the country saves thousands of our shelter's pets every year. We generally coordinate a large transport every two weeks, and they primarily fall on weekends. Most long-distance transports are broken into "legs." This means volunteers take shifts driving a specific portion of the route, so you are never responsible for the entire journey.

If you would like to get involved in this amazing effort, please contact Deana Wehr, Rescue & Transport Manager, at [email protected].

    Volunteer Application

    SECTION 1: About You
If you will be supervising someone UNDER 18, please submit the following information. If not, skip to SECTION 2

SECTION 2: How You Can Help

SECTION 3: Your safety and comfort
    1. While you are walking dogs, PLEASE do not let your dog come into contact with ANY other dog except the one he is kenneled with, even in passing. You should never let them get closer than FIVE FEET to another animal!

    2. Animals can be messy! Please wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty and CLOSED-TOE shoes. Please wear appropriate clothing (no short shorts, tank tops, or clothing with offensive messages)

    3. Please do not smoke cigarettes or talk/text on your cell phone while walking dogs or handling cats.

    4. If you are supervising children under the age of 18, YOU MUST stay physically with them throughout the duration of your volunteer service.

    5. It is very easy to spread germs when handling animals. Please wash your hands or use hand sanitizer between each animal. To protect your pets at home, it is strongly recommended that you wash your clothing thoroughly after leaving.

    SECTION 4: Waiver of liability
